From the October 2026 intake, the 150-hour study certificate alone is no longer enough. Accepted proof: JLPT N5, NAT-TEST, J.TEST, or a documented school interview.
Rule 2: N2 for many work visas
Since April 15, 2026: customer-facing or language-heavy roles at Category 3–4 companies need CEFR B2 (JLPT N2, BJT 400+, or a Japanese degree). Pure engineering roles and large companies are exempt.
